Family violence against persons from the LGBTIQ+ community
Commission on Gender-Based Violence & Domestic Violence
Tuesday 12th September at 17:00 at Pjazza Trittoni, Valletta
The main objective is to discuss experiences of maltreatment and abuse from family members or caregivers that people within the LGBTIQ+ community may encounter due to their gender identity and/or sexual orientation. This discussion will also address intimate partner violence within same-sex marriages.
For this reason, CGBVDV is hosting a panel discussion which will:
– delve into experiences of domestic violence on persons from the LGBTIQ+ community
– focus on the barriers faced when seeking professional support and the support services available for LGBTIQ+ survivors of family violence
The proposed discussions shall raise awareness on family violence against persons from the LGBTIQ+ community and explore policy recommendations to safeguard LGBTIQ+ individuals who experience violence abuse.
The event will be held in English.
